For whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.

OK Folks, it is official - after the 21st, my hours go down to 20 hours/week. The Gardener gets his walking papers, ditto the house cleaners. Back to doing my own home repairs etc. Volunteer time is going to ZERO. Charity donations going to ZERO. You can't tax what I don't earn or spend, and you won't get the fruits of my free labor. I get more free time to do what I want

Roebling Bridge (Aqueduct)

The Roebling Bridge (Aqueduct) is the oldest suspension bridge in the United States.  Opened in 1847, it originally carried a canal across the Delaware River, but today carries a small road

US FIRST Robotics

Last season, my daughter got involved with USFIRST Robotics. Her school The Bronx High School of Science (which is also my Alma Mata) has two teams, the All girls "Fe Maidens" #2265 and the Sciborgs #1155. Here we see the Sciborgs getting ready for a preliminary match at the NYC Regionals

Remember.  A Tuesday, Dem primary here in NYC (which it would be today if they didn't move it to Thursday), cool, clear blue sky, just like today....  It was 11 year ago this morning..

Down in the swamp #2

Swamp Sparrow - Another swamp sparrow from yesterday.  Probably the first bird photo I'm really happy how it came out

Down in the swamp #1

One from an early morning in the local wetlands.
Got up early, knowing low tide was 9:30am or so, figure get in, and in place before 7:00am, try to get some more egret/great blue heron shots. Guess what never showed?

Did see a green heron on the way in, and some swamp sparrows (both of which I got pics of) and some stuff I didn't (kingfisher, sandpipers etc). Ended up leaving about 9:00am, as the weather started getting UGLY, in fact we had a line of T-storms that generated a tornado come through maybe 45 mins later.

Photo is of an immature swamp sparrow

Falls Church

The waterfalls in this picture are totally seasonal, in that other than a trickle, they really only exist when the Ashokan Reservoir is overflowing.  They are downstream of the spillway.  This picture was taken from the bridge from Beaverkill Road to Spillway Road, labeled on maps as Falls Church

Ft Totten

This used to be the USCG Station at Ft Totten, now part of the FDNY/EMS water training.

When most people think of NYC, they think of Manhattan, the skyscrapers, the crowds (aka the Sex in the City/Woody Alan NYC) or Archie Bunker/The King of Queens NYC (the dense parts of the outer boroughs - or as we in NYC often abbreviate 'boro'),  People forget that parts of the North Bronx, Staten Island, or in this case, Queens (Ft Totten is NE Queens) are quite suburban

Cowards Falls

Cowards Falls are little known outside of the locals.  They are just off Hurley Mountain Road near Kingston NY
Cowards Falls
I just found out today that it is Cowards Falls (with an S) aka Hurley Falls.  These falls are NOT in the book Catskill Region Waterfall Guide

Monochrome Monday at Grant's Tomb

Believe it or not, despite living here in NYC my entire life (well, 14 months away while Mary was in Grad School), I had never been to Grant's Tomb.  It happens to be a whopping two blocks from my current contract, so I went last Friday

Haven't posted in a while

Hey Gang (for the 1-2 followers I do have) Think I'm going to be posting more photos here - just because
